Blotting Paper

Sleep has not rejuvenated
my weary bones,
nor repaired the clogged gears
in my rusty brain.

Now, the regeneration process
is up to the nature of daylight –
to reignite the candle
in the inky alcove of my soul.

Where, the sodden blotting paper
has become my night-time traitor

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Fabulous image! πŸ™‚
Powerful poem! We can all relate…especially as we become “more well-seasoned” (older). πŸ™‚
Gorgeous music! Perfect for this cold Dec night! I listened to it twice. πŸ™‚
We must all pay attention to our bodies and rest as we can/when need be. Sometimes the night time doesn’t work for us…so we have to rest during the day time. πŸ™‚

“I’m never sure about my inky lines
While I’m bumbling along through time
And when my blotting paper is sodden
      My old rambling rhymes
      Can be inadvertently forgotten”
