An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Throwback Friday, Sadness (a Senryu)
Todayโs Throwback Friday poem (originally written in July 2023) is drawn from my upcoming book, Time Hears No Sound. It appears as the first poem in the Senryu section of Chapter 10, Timeโs Short Poems: Haiku, Tanka, etc. A small return to 2023, where shadows still had something to teach me.
Sadness (a Senryu)
Below the grayness Naked emotions stumble Between the shadows
For a soundtrack to this quiet ache, hereโs Leonard Cohenโs Show Me the Place โ a voice searching through the same shadows.โ
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

And knowing that we have to learn wo live not only within them- but in spite of them sometimes makes this all the more beautiful to me.
We can all relate to the emotions you’ve expressed here.
Ivor, your artistry in photos and poems…and Mr. Cohen’s artistry…is always a winning combination…you two always touch my heart deeply. โค๏ธ
As we can, we continue to stand up…and move forward. Your poem makes me think of Mr. Robert Frost saying, “The only way out is through.”

Yes, I think Robert had the right idea, Carolynโฆ I quite sure, but I think the poem was written after Iโd been to a funeral of a close friend ๐ฅฐ๐๐

Keeping our footing isn’t easy; there are many pitfalls in life. Wonderful combo of words and music, dear Ivor. ๐ฅฐ๐ถ
