Before the Stars Arise

A quiet moment at day’s end with a strange, familiar weight — the sky unravels into its darker self.

Before the Stars Arise

The evening’s curtain is half drawn
Long shadows spread across the lawn

The hessian horizon resembled the Dawn
As the hazy sky turned a colour fawn

Meanwhile, the bronze clouds groaned and yawned
As though they’d been wrongfully spawned and pawned

Then the world’s breath grows taut and thin
And the approaching darkness folds us in

Let the music carry the last light a little further into the evening.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you for your great words, … I liked this one a lot, and I was nearly going to it Coffee House Writers, but I chose this one instead, a sneak preview, not allowed to, but just for you my friend

    2. Whoops … I forgot the attachment
      I’m Quietly Flying Around

      Up here,
with my head in the clouds,
where talking to myself is allowed,
without hearing from the maddening crowd,
and I’m free to be clever and proud

      Then, while I’m flying around,
held in my cocoon of sound,
      the friendly and noisy Corellas
enjoy chatting with this odd poet fella

      1. This is divine! Thank you for sharing a sneak preview. 😉 I looked up Corellas and was delighted to see they are cockatoos! I bet they are very noisy fellas! If anyone ever looks funny at you while you’re talking to yourself, you can always say you were talking to Frankie! 😂 🐶🦜💛
