Do Not Be Silent (a Senryu)

A big thank you to ‘Eugi’ from “Moonwashed Musings”, with her post “Listen But Hear The Truth”, for inspiring me to write this ‘Senryu’… You may visit her wonderful site via this link >> https://amanpan.blog/2023/08/31/listen-but-hear-the-truth/

Do Not Be Silent (a Senryu)

I’m aged and fading

I listen but do not see

I see but don’t speak

Throwback Friday, Lullaby (a Senryu)

Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”. I wrote ‘Lullaby’ in May 2023, and the Senryu will be the opening piece in the ‘Senryu’ section of Chapter 10. Short Poems: Haiku, Senryu, Tanka, and Others.

And coincidently, over at Weekly Prompts, the Midweek Challenge is the word Napping, please visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here

Please Note: All above images (Except the one of Frankie), were by taken by Derrick Knight, and he kindly allows me to reproduce his wonderful photos here on my poetry website. If you wish, you may visit his fabulous Site via this link > https://derrickjknight.com/2023/05/17/baby-species/

Lullaby (a Senryu)

Sleep little ones, sleep

Our Chaotic world will wait

Until eyes hear sound

The White Azalea Peace Garden

Hello dear readers and followers, I am reposting this poem I wrote in July 2022 in response to Eugi’s “Moonwashed Weekly Prompt” – Peaceable … to visit her fabulous site, please click on >> Here

The White Azalea Peace Garden

I stare at the garden plaque

There on the ground

In front of the white Azalea bushes

I sit on the park bench and wonder

Here under a clear blue sky

Why? Does the sun shine on our world

I was born in nineteen fifty one

Here under a broken moon

During the second year of the Korean War

I stand and walk away

Where must I go?

To view the whole of the moon

Will We Choose Wisely? (a Senryu)

On Monday a Geelong Writers poetry group went to Rachinger Gallery in East Geelong for an Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop. Here I am presenting the painting, “Owl” by, Gale Jarmyn, and my associated Ekphrastic poem “Will We Choose Wisely”

Will We Choose Wisely? (a Senryu)

The owl shook his head

Angry feathers flew sideways

“You must choose wisely!”

The Morning After

The Morning After

Tracking south

Stepping from one quiet cloud

Onto a whispering cloud

Following powdered footprints

Without displacing a feather

Without cracking the sky’s

Hypnotic blue eggshell

And daydreaming of the south

Without you

Neon Blue

Neon Blue (a Haiku)

Our sky’s neon blue

The bright side of winter blue

Warming our toes too

Why Do We Write? (a Quote)

My “Quote” was inspired by Arlene’s lovely article ‘On Writing’
>> https://arlene1956.wordpress.com/2023/08/20/on-writing/

Why Do We Write? (a Quote)

“The world caresses our eyes

every day until we die.

We write to arouse idle mind’s

and soothe hearts with our soulful finds” … Ivor Steven

WHERE HAVE THE FAERIES GONE?

BY IVOR STEVEN/

AUGUST 21, 2023/

Ivor Steven / Coffee House Writers

    Deep in the enchanted forest
    Under mossy rocks and water-reeds
    I found an iron-bar door
Lying over a sinkhole in the creek bed

    I wondered and yelled out
    Eerily, a gentle voice replied
“Do not worry, we are sheltering here”
“Why are you hiding?” I inquired
    “We are waiting for humanity
to stop the carnage on our planet”

Then, peering up from lower in the chasm
I witnessed that the small luminous eyes
    Of Earth’s guardian faeries
Were en masse, joyless, and crying
