An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Nature’s Pink Matinee (a Tanka)
Another pink twilight this evening reminded me of a tanka I drafted some months ago. As the colours gathered across the western sky, it seemed the perfect time to finally share it.
And here are last evening’s twilight photos
Nature’s Pink Matinee (a Tanka)
A pink twilight sky We, the fortunate witnesses Stand here wondering Why nature’s matinee shows Are never on earth sold out
Tonight’s audience may have been small, but nature’s performance was unforgettable. 🎵🌸
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Oh my! Awesome is the first word that comes to mind. This is a sight of biblical proportions; we are truly blessed to be witnesses of such majesty. Indescribably beautiful, but your lovely poem certainly does it proud. Gorgeous verse and view, my dear friend. 🥰🙏🏼🤩
Yes, awesome is a good word, and on these wondrous occasions I’m usually mesmerised and lost for words as I at the incredible pink sky, which only lasts for a few minutes; I broadly smile to myself and say to Frankie “wow, we are the lucky ones tonight my friend” 🥰💕🐶🎶
Love your gorgeous photos…those pink skies are so serene, soft, silent and sanguine. 🙂
Love your perfect poem! You’re right, those shows should be “sold out” every day! 🙂 Whether it is an audience of one, few, many or a multitude…nature always puts on it’s best award winning performance. 🙂
I always feel honored and awed to “attend”. 🙂
(((HUGS))) and 🩷🩷🩷!!! 🙂
Thank you, and it was certainly an awesome show; which only goes for a few minutes just after sunset when the clouds and sun align in that perfect prismatic projector, Carolyn 📽️💕🥰🌏🐶🎶🤗
Ivor, I love the joke at the heart of this: a sold-out show that costs nothing and asks only that we look up. ‘Fortunate witnesses’ says it all. Thank you for sharing both the poem and those pink skies. 🌸
Thank you, and yes, that’s the gist of my poem, we have free front row seats to the greatest show on Earth, but most people are too busy staring at their plastic screens, Khadija
at least, the gifts of nature is still, free for all to enjoy, and we need that, as the costs of everything is rising higher, higher, and higher these days. We should all work harder to protect the environment, for nature offered us all, these kinds of beauty that’s beyond, compare.
what a gorgeous poem! ❤ ❤
